+composites Webinar

Event Date:
Tuesday, 1 July, 2014 - 10:00

On July 1, 2014 Stefan Brück from INM held the webinar: Nanocomposites.

Nanocomposites are a new class of interesting composite materials. Here nanoparticles with diameter below 100 nm are used as reinforcement. Other than in classic composites the nano-scaled reinforcements have additional effects: 1/ formation of a significant fraction of an interface layer and 2/ second or third function by the nanoparticles themselves.

In this webinar, we gave an introduction in materials and processing of nanocomposite coatings: selection of nanoparticles and matrices, synthesis of sol-gel matrices, application methods with conventional wet technologies, curing by light or heat, testing requirements for specific applications.

Webinar delegates discovered newest functional coatings from INM Leibniz-Institute for New Materials for four different applications:

  • Corrosion protection coatings in harsh environments
  • Anti-friction coatings with corrosion protection
  • TCO inks for direct printing
  • Anti-microbial coatings with long term effect

Then, the question of nanosafety were approached. This topic was presented by Mr. Björn Mathes from DECHEMA, a member of NANORA.
